Social media platforms- Snapchat, Meta, and TikTok- have launched Thrive Mental Health Initiative. According to Techradar, the initiative was designed in partnership with the Mental Health Coalition.

Thrive is aimed at flagging harmful content on self-harm or suicide and keeping it from spreading on social media platforms.

Sharing Signals

Through the Mental Health Coalition partnership, Meta, TikTok, and Snapchat will share signals about violations of self-harm content with each other. This will enable the platforms to investigate and take action where the same or similar content is posted on their applications.

In a blog posted on its website, Meta acknowledged that self-harm content isn’t limited to its platforms only. Meta’s spokesperson described Thrive Mental health program as a database that’s accessible to all participating companies. Meta said that any self-harm content found on social media will be removed and flagged in the database so that other companies can take action.

“We’re prioritizing this content because of its propensity to spread across different platforms quickly. These initial signals represent content only, and will not include identifiable information about any accounts or individuals,” Meta Global Head of Safety, Antigone Davis wrote in the post.

The social media giant said it will be using its technology, alongside the Lantern program to share harmful data securely on the Thrive platform. Lantern program is a Tech Coalition platform designed to make technology safe for children. It includes tech giants like Google, Apple, OpenAI, and Discord.

Legal Actions

For a long time, Snapchat, Meta, TikTok, and other social media platforms have been criticized for not taking sufficient action to moderate the content that teens consume online. This includes images and videos of self-harm.

Previously, parents and communities have taken legal action against the three platforms that are now partnering under the Thrive Mental Wellbeing program for allowing content that led to suicides. In 2021, internal research that leaked to the public revealed that Meta knew its Instagram platform could have harmful impacts on teenage girls.

Studies have suggested that teens who self-harm are active on social media. They have also shown that increased use of social media by minors has led to increased suicidal ideation and depression among those groups.

A Welcome Move

Meta’s mental health initiative has been welcomed by tech safety advocates. Acknowledging the good intentions of Thrive, technology watchdogs say the program appears to be a safety measure that companies take when they’re pressured by advocates and lawmakers.

“We are glad to see these companies working together to remove the types of content associated with self-harm and suicide. Without proper regulatory guardrails, the jury is out on whether this will have a significant impact on the harms that kids and teens are facing online,” Chief Advocacy Officer at Common Sense Media, Daniel Weiss said.

Earlier this year, Meta announced that it would be removing and limiting sensitive and inappropriate content from teenagers’ feeds. The social media giant also said it was planning to hide terms and search results relating to eating disorders, suicide, and self-harm from all users.

On Thursday, September 12, Meta reported that it pulled down 12 million content pieces featuring self-harm and suicide from Instagram and Facebook between April and June 2024. The company hopes that Thrive will help keep graphic content off the three social platforms that are participating in the programs.

Meta has welcomed Turkey’s move to lift a 9 day ban on its social media platform, Instagram. Communication shared on its platforms following the lifting of the Meta Turkey ban shows that the big tech company continues to discuss accounts and content that violate Turkish policies with authorities.

According to USNews, the Meta Turkey ban was lifted and Instagram access was restored on Saturday after 9 days. The ban on the social media platform was lifted after Meta agreed to cooperate with Turkish authorities to address concerns raised by the government.

Pleased to be Back

In a statement published by Meta, the big tech company said it was happy with the decision to restore Instagram in Turkey and expressed commitment to act on violations.

We are pleased to see that Instagram is back up and running in Turkey. We remain in dialogue with the authorities and will continue to take action on any violating content and accounts. This includes removing content that violates our Dangerous Organizations & Individuals policy and applying newsworthy allowances where appropriate,” Meta spokesperson said.

User Protests

The Turkey Meta ban was effected on August 2. Turkish authorities blocked Instagram access after Meta failed to comply with laws and rules of the country.

A complaint from a high-ranking Turkish official also triggered the Meta Turkey ban. The official accused Instagram of blocking posts with condolence messages following the assassination of the leader of Palestinian’s Hamas militant group, Ismail Haniyeh.

The move to ban Instagram triggered protests from Turkish small businesses and users who rely on the platform to reach customers. On one occasion, a woman who criticized the Instagram ban was arrested and charged with insulting the president and inciting hatred following a court order.

Policy Matters

After the Instagram ban was lifted in Turkey, Meta said it has not changed its policy about content. However, the company has agreed to review the validity of actions that were taken regarding the accounts and content that violated its policy in Turkey in the days that followed Haniyeh’s death.

The company says newsworthy considerations were applied to Instagram posts made by Turkish politicians in line with its standard approach.

Meta maintains visibility of policy-violating content when it’s in the interest of the public interest or newsworthy. Turkey has a population of 85 million people and over 50 million registered Instagram users.

Introduction

Threads VS Twitter is the latest and trending fight between the two tech giants. Interestingly, none of these is ready to back out. Speaking of which, Mark Zuckerberg has had the upper hand till now. The sole reason being, Threads getting a whopping 100 million users in just 5 days. From that point on the fight between the two CEOs has escalated.

Twitter since the Musk takeover has been controversial. First, Twitter itself sued Elon Musk when he backed out of a $44bn Twitter takeover deal. Fast forward now, when Twitter is owned by Elon, he threatens to sue Threads over app infringement.

It’s important to know what the newly launched app Threads has in common with Twitter. To do that, let’s see what Threads by Instagram all is about.

Threads by Instagram – An Overview

Threads, in a nutshell, is a microblogging network comparable to Twitter. And, the tweet-counterparts are referred to as threads, and re-tweets are referred to as reposts. The similarities and unsurprising given the primary purpose of Threads was to compete with Twitter.

You can transfer all of your information and credentials using your existing Instagram accounts. And, you can follow everyone you know on Instagram with a single tap. You can also post threads, images, and videos, as well as engage with all of your followers. It will coexist with Instagram as a text-centric platform.

Threads will also be compatible with open social networks based on Activity Pub, such as Mastodon. Meta aims to integrate it into the metaverse, and this is a great move to complement that.

Thread is a strong attempt to compete with Twitter. Meta has used its experience in producing social media products, as well as its existing distribution of over a billion people, to create a decent app. We’re still working on the app’s first public release, and there’s a lot to improve and look forward to.

Instagram Threads vs Twitter

Instagram Threads vs Twitter – Comparing Key Features

1. User Interface

The Threads app’s interface is straightforward, with a dark background and text in white and grey in the foreground. A lot is happening on a single thread and there is no light mode either. This is where Twitter has an advantage, thanks to years of improving the microblogging platform.

If we talk about the user interface Twitter has an edge over newly launched Threads. It would be crucial to see how Threads copes up.

2. App Layout and Features

The Threads app features five tabs: the home tab, the search tab, the post tab, the activity tab (which contains all of your replies, mentions, and other notifications), and the profile tab.

The home tab displays all threads, including accounts you don’t follow – and it can quickly load up with unwelcome posts. The search tab displays profiles that you can follow.

Twitter has an advantage here because it offers a separate page for ‘For You’ and ‘Following’. Twitter also includes extra features such as Spaces, Community, and Direct Messaging that Trends does not have. And, Threads does not support hashtags.

Another issue with Threads is that there is no separate button on your Profile to verify who you follow. You have a button for checking your followers, which leads to a button for checking your following. We’re also not sure what the design process was. However, there is a separate link beneath your profile to display your Threads and Replies, which we appreciate.

3. Differences in Content Features, Rules, and Character Limit

Threads hit Twitter where it hurts the most – Twitter’s free edition has a 280-character limit, while a Twitter Blue subscription gives you up to 25,000 characters. Post content in Threads is limited to 500 characters. Threads, of course, have no rate limit, and you can browse as much content as you like.

However, there does not appear to be a limit on the number of videos that can be uploaded to Twitter. We recently saw Apple provide a free series premiere via a single Tweet. Threads, on the other hand, has a five-minute video limit.

Threads, like Twitter, allow you to mute and hide words from your feed. On Threads, you may also conceal and block accounts. You can also hide the like count on your Threads and Instagram posts. This is a feature that Twitter lacks.

Tweets can be edited with the Twitter Blue membership. This feature is absent from Threads. There is no paid version that allows you to do this either. Twitter Blue can also assist you with the text format, which Threads cannot. Individual Threads can be deleted, but not your Threads account. You’ll have to also erase your Instagram account to do so.

4. Sharing Features on Threads and Twitter

Threads links can be easily shared and cross-posted on Instagram. But unlike Twitter, Threads does not have a direct message capability. Threads also do not allow you to share hashtags.

The repost feature is similar to retweets on Twitter. Both fundamentally serve the same purpose; which is to share content from other accounts on your feed. On both Twitter and Threads, you can quickly post links to information on other social media platforms.

5. Profile Verification

The prized blue tick recently became a paid feature that anyone with Twitter Blue could access, removing its exclusivity. Meta did the same thing and began a paid subscription program for verification. This will grant you Threads verification, as well as a special tab to view notifications from verified accounts.

6. Privacy

Privacy has always been Meta’s weak link, so it’s no surprise that Zuckerberg faced criticism during the Threads launch. It is not available in the EU since it facilitates data and credential transfer from another app (Instagram), which is against EU law. Furthermore, a simple check of App Store data shows that Threads accesses more items on your phone than Twitter.

Furthermore, Twitter has greater privacy features, particularly in terms of content blocking and limits.

You may safely log in to Threads if you have two-factor authentication enabled on Instagram. Twitter supports two-factor authentication as well, but SMS-based 2FA is available exclusively with Twitter Blue.

Also, there is currently no advertising on Threads. We’re sure they’ll start appearing in the next few days, and it’s unlikely we’ll be able to block or minimize them. Twitter Blue allows you to cut advertisements by up to 50%.

7. Compatibility

Twitter has both Android and iPhone apps, as well as web compatibility. As a result, you can use Twitter on any device. Threads, on the other hand, currently only has iOS and Android apps. Threads cannot be accessed directly on a web browser. We believe, however, that the online app will be accessible soon.

Should You Move to Threads on Instagram

We believe it is too soon to switch from Twitter to Threads. Instead, we recommend that you use both of these platforms. This is because a huge portion of the Instagram audience is now available on Threads, and you don’t want to miss out on your Twitter following as well.

Threads still have a long way to go before it can compete with Twitter as a microblogging platform. Would Meta have a chance if Elon Musk’s acquisition was not heavily criticized, and if all of the restricted features including Twitter Blue were not present?

Instagram in the US will be rolling out a feature to allow users to download reels directly on their devices. Speaking of which, TikTok, Instagram’s rival had allowed users to do so for around a few years to gain a wider reach.

Instagram over the years has brought many updates/features to the social media app. The update and features had made it a great and easy-to-use app. Today, Instagram is the go-to app for content creators to publish their content online. Content Creators affiliates, influencers, and the company promote themselves on these platforms while other users use the platform for content consumption and browsing.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, on the IG broadcast announced that they will begin rolling out the feature in the United States. He further added that it will only be available to public accounts. Creators may turn off this feature and prevent their material from being downloaded. It is unclear whether the reel download feature will be available on all devices, and it will be worth watching.

How Do Instagram Reels Work?

The Instagram Reel was introduced on August 5, 2020, and is a method to make and discover short, amusing videos on the platform that is controlled by Meta. Instagram Reel enables users to record, edit, and share 15-second multi-clip Videos with audio, effects, and fresh design tools. Then, through Explore, these can be made available to the larger community as well as shared with followers on Feeds.

How to Download the Reels?

Simply, hit the Share symbol on a reel you like and choose Download. Reels shared by private users cannot be downloaded, and public accounts can disable the ability for others to download their reels in Account Settings.

Mosseri did not explain in his announcement whether the downloaded reels will bear IG’s watermark, as is the case with TikTok video downloads and YouTube clips. YouTube began including its branding in downloaded’ shorts’ to prevent cross-platform video sharing.

Instagram has 2.35 million active users globally. But since this feature is just for the US, Instagram can soon roll out this feature to the remaining countries. This can add to the popularity of Instagram and can increase its user base significantly.

Are you aware of What is Snapchat Premium? Social media platforms are currently marathoning to provide paid subscription plans to their users. Previously, Telegram introduced its Premium subscription for its users at an affordable price and access to exclusive features. Other social media platforms have also rolled out subscription services recently. Twitter, in 2021, announced the ‘Blue subscription’ with ad-free access to other websites for $2.99 a month.

Participating in a similar race, Snapchat Premium has come up with Snapchat+, its new subscription. Let us find out what the newly launched subscription offers.

Snapchat Premium: Snap+ for Most Passionate Members

On 29 June 2022, Snapchat officially rolled out Snapchat Plus or Snapchat+. It is a paid subscription service offering a collection of exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features. These features are unavailable to free members. Snapchat+ will cost $3.99/month.

The Plus plan includes pre-release, experimental, and exclusive features. These are pinning your close friend as BFF and customizing the app’s icon. These features are mainly intended for the “most passionate members” of Snapchat users, as cited by the company. Subscribers will also be able to see who has re-watched Stories. In addition to that, it’ll also include the photos and videos that are posted to a user’s feed. Additionally, Snapchat+ users can customize the app’s icon on their home screen by selecting from a variety of designs available.

The Snapchat Premium subscription plan is launched in 9 countries, including the US. All in all, the remaining countries are Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

During the rollout of Snapchat+, the team said in the news release, “Over 332 million people worldwide use Snapchat every day to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. We’ve always enjoyed creating new features for our community, and historically we’ve tested new features in different ways, rolling them out to various Snapchatters and geographies. This subscription will allow us to deliver new Snapchat features to some of the most passionate members of our community and allow us to provide prioritized support.”

Diversifying Revenue Sources

Snapchat+ comes after the social media company reported a disappointing sales outlook for the current quarter when it reported first-quarter results in April 2022. According to Snapchat CEO Derek Andersen, macroeconomic conditions like supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and inflation are impacting advertising Snap’s main source of revenue.

Moreover, it could reportedly help Snapchat diversify its revenue sources if it starts to gain traction as well as popularity. However, Snapchat’s senior vice president of products Jacob Andreou told The Verge that the company doesn’t expect the plan to become a “material new revenue source.” During the official rollout of Snap+, the company’s shares were down about 1%, as reported by CNBC.

Finally, Andreou cites that ‘single-players’ features like the BFF pin will probably remain exclusive to Plus subscribers. Meanwhile, other features relying on interactions with others may eventually be released for the general user base. It is, however, noteworthy that Snapchat+ will continue including advertisements, just like the free Snapchat service. In fact, according to Andreou, “ads are going to be at the core of our business model for the long term.”

What Are All The Features of Snapchat Premium?

Following are some of the features of Premium Snapchat:

  • Pin your friend as a #1 BFF
  • Get easy access to all the exclusive Snapchat icons
  • Always display a nice badge in your profile
  • See your orbit with BFF
  • See your Friend’s whereabouts in the last 24 hours
  • See how many friends have re-watched your Snapchat story

Introduction

We all remember that summer when we went to the arcade and never returned. Maybe because we were too grown-up or maybe because we were too busy making our Facebook accounts.

Believe it or not, but what started as an amusement machine has now turned into a multi-million-dollar industry.

Don’t believe me?

Well, statistically speaking video games (as an industry) generated $120 billion last year alone. This means that if the gaming industry was a country, it would probably rank within the top 100 GDPs.

And it’s just the beginning!

While video gaming was already booming, COVID-19 pushed people inside their homes and many of them have taken up gaming as a hobby, be it on a gaming console or mobile phone.

With the rising revenue of the gaming industry, major tech companies have started to put their horse in the race.

Eyeing this opportunity, Facebook has also launched its gaming app, Facebook Gaming.

Facebook’s new app is already giving fierce competitors to Twitch and YouTube Gaming, which holds the largest shares in the market.

To build Facebook Gaming, the social media giant has partnered with Microsoft to bring over its Mixer platform’s popular features.

Get started with Facebook Gaming

Today, we are going to answers all your how’s and what’s, so you can get started with Facebook Gaming and become a part of the social buzz.

Q1. What is Facebook Gaming?

Facebook Gaming is a gaming platform that is quite similar to Twitch and YouTube Gaming. However, unlike them, it offers few more perks, especially for Android users.

In very short, the gaming platform has become a home to a lot of influencers and streamers to start live streams and showcase gameplay. But the best part, people like you and me can also start live streams.

Facebook Gaming allows all its users (both pros or beginners) to build their community. You can do this by joining groups that are centered around games that they particularly like.

If you are someone who feels that video games are too time-consuming, don’t worry! Facebook Gaming has something for you too.

You can browse a whole section of mini-games which consists of a lot of interesting and non-time-consuming games including Ludo Club, OMG, Water Slide, and more.

Q2. What if You Don’t Find a Group for Yourself?

In that case, you can also start your gaming groups where you can chat and discuss and play mini-games about things that you and other members do.

Here, is some bad news for iOS users, this new gaming way does not include the mini-games section to meet Apple’s App Store policies.

Q3. What is the Difference between Twitch and Facebook Gaming?

Twitch

Facebook Gaming

The platform has the largest market share in the industry  The platform offers great connectivity to social media and Facebook audience
It is built around gamers, for gamers  Multiple topics and pre-recorded video platform
The solid fan base of streamers and viewers  Worldwide reach to 1 billion Facebook members
Easy access to streaming/recording tools/software  Easy to promote on socials to Facebook right on the creator studio page
Platform accessible extensions  Page advertising built-in

Q4. How to Download and Set up Facebook Gaming?

To download and set up Facebook Gaming, just follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Search for the Facebook Gaming app on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Download the app by tapping on the Install button and install it on your smartphone.

Step 2: Once you open the app, login into Facebook Gaming by using your Facebook credentials. After that, you can select all the games that you would like to follow such as Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat 11, and more.

Step 3: You can then follow the streamers that you’d like to watch such as BBS, StoneMountain64, H2WO, and more.

Step 4: Once you have selected everything tap on done and your feed will be set up accordingly.

Set up Facebook Gaming

Q5. What is Facebook Gaming on Mobile?

One of the most recent updates on Facebook Games is the addition of the Facebook Gaming app. The app is designed to help gamers easily connect with other gamers, discover content, and play casual games.

It’s similar to the Twitch app as it gives you the ability to easily access and watch videos from streamers. You can also comment and interact with streamers and Facebook groups from within the app.

Lastly, you can also start streaming from within the app too. However, the app is only Android for now but is expected to be launched in iOS soon.

Q6. Is Facebook Gaming Any Good?

The answer is yes. it is good because of its easy-to-use interface and is connected to the social media platform. Besides, it also has a great payout when compared to other platforms.

Introduction

We all know some of the largest companies in the world belong to the tech industry.

Ever wondered how companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon grew into giants?

What do you think is common in all their success stories?

If you are guessing that they all started in a garage! I am sorry but that’s the wrong answer.

Well, what sets them apart from other companies is their ability to combine marketing and technology.

Marketing has becomes the backbone of companies. You can literally put companies into two groups one with amazing marketing and others who lack in that area.

If you are confused as to where your marketing goals and strategy are lacking continue reading. We are going to give you a little overview of MarTech i.e. Marketing and Technology and help you upgrade your marketing strategy.

So, open your brain both right and justify to creatively think and critically analyze some amazing MarTech tool solution and features.

Martech is much more than just a platform. If you are crafting a marketing strategy or even starting a new business and want success then MarTech is your go-to.

Today, businesses are dealing with Martech one way or the other due to the increasing adoption of digital communication globally. MarTech helps bridge the gap between them for a steady pace between the expectations of a customer and the marketers.

But, you don’t need to have it or use it because everyone is using it. Before going for a MarTech stack just take a moment and sit down with your teams, discuss your need, current, and future requirement, and then list out what you want.

Now, there is one more thing, one of the most common mistakes I have seen is people sometimes get confused between Martech & Adtech. While they both are a bit similar there is only a fragile line separating them.

For instance, AdTech, the advertising technology is meant to help the advertisers as well as the ad agencies to create, run, and measure online advertising campaigns across platforms. On the other hand, Martech allows users to run and manage online marketing campaigns on different platforms.

A 2019 research has revealed that 57% of the world’s population spends approximately 6.5 hours online every day.

Companies leverage the suite of these tools for enhancing marketing processes, which is known as the MarTech Stack.

List of Martech Tool

1. Google AdWords

There is only one key to scale your business that is you need to reach out to new customers. And, the easiest way marketers opt to reach out is through advertising.

Advertising has become inseparable with marketing and Google AdWords is my personal favorite. Today, despite Facebook’s massive growth, Google AdWords remains the most widely used advertising platform in the world.

In fact, for most entry-level digital marketing professionals getting certified in AdWords is seen as a necessity.

AdWords packs a punch in the form of intent and intent is next to customer acquisition.

I have seen marketers rushing to advertise on Facebook, but what they fail to realize is that their people don’t want to see ads or find products. Instead, they want to engage with family, friends, and many are watch some funny videos.

On the contrary, AdWords helps you see what people are actively searching via keywords to find solutions to their problems. So, you can skip the funnel process and start selling.

Google’s AdWords packs reach. Google handles over 40,000 searches every second and over 3.5 billion each day. This tool can help you advertise on YouTube which has 1.5 billion monthly active users.

In terms of support, you have access to dedicated account managers that will help run and optimize your campaigns.

Additionally, its dashboard is extremely easy to use with a diverse demographic targeting and custom audiences.

In the past few years, AdWords has become the king of PPC advertising and even in the coming time, it will continue to dominate its user base.
